National Symposium on Rotor Dynamics - IIT Madras

December 19,20,21

Most machines have one or more rotating parts. Rotating machine elements thus form the backbone of industrial infrastructure and therefore play a pivotal role in the growth and development of the country. Rotor Dynamics is the key in design and maintenance of all such rotating machinery. This area has made tremendous strides in recent years.

ObCom 2011 - VIT

September 9

This International Conference is a major event to be conducted following the grand success of series of ObCom conferences during 2003, 2004 and 2006, which were audited by a good number of participants from Academia and Industry across the World. The past ObCom conferences received good contributions from academia, industry and research organizations. Our sponsors included governmental and non-governmental agencies like DRDO, ISTE, DIT, CSIR etc.

VALVETRONIC

Posted by tpapers On 2:19 pm

Abstract:
The Valvetronic is world's first engine replaces the function of the throttle butterfly by using an infinitely variable intake valve lift. The Valvetronic system is a variable valve timing system to offer continuously variable timing (on both intake and exhaust camshafts) along with continuously variable intake valve lift, from ~0 to 10 mm, and duration on the intake camshaft only.
The intake and outlet camshafts are driven by variable cam adjustment, BMW’s Vanos technology. With its large valve lift (= deep, long ventilation) at higher rpm and short valve lift (= flat, short process of ventilation) at lower rpm, valvetronic is able to breathe in the same way as nature. Valvetronic has its own computer housed in a separate unit away from the engine management system. Valvetronic minimizes pumping loss by reducing valve lift and the amount of air entering the combustion chambers.
Valvetronic is an important element in BMW's aim of meeting the carbondioxide fleet requirements of 140 gm/km.  Because Valvetronic allows the engine to breathe more freely, fuel consumption is reduced by 10%. The result of valvetronic is higher top speed & faster acceleration than conventional engines for same fuel consumption. Valvetronic combines a significant improvement of fuel consumption with excellent engine response and control, allowing optimum valve timing under all running conditions.
